Payette Lake

Located in McCall, Idaho

Overlooking the rolling mountains of Idaho, Payette Lake encompasses 5,330 acres of sparkling glacial water. At an elevation of 5,000 feet, Payette Lake was originally carved out by a glacier over 10,000 years ago.

Half of the lake is protected as a part of the Ponderosa State Park, which leaves a large portion of the lake undisturbed by development.

Activities in Ponderosa

Ponderosa State Park offers over 1000 acres of untouched wilderness, which covers most of the large peninsula juts out into Payette Lake.

The park has a host of campsites and hiking trails for visitors to get the full outdoor experience.

Lake Features

Boating and fishing are two of the more popular activities enjoyed on Payette lake. Watercraft rentals are available for visitors' convenience.

Fishermen report that Payette Lake is excellent for catching cutthroat and rainbow trout. Some reports state that old-growth lake trout planted in the 1950s can weigh more than 30 pounds.

Other species that have been seen in this lake are bridgelip sucker, kokanee, largescale sucker, mountain whitefish, northern pikeminnow, smallmouth bass, and yellow perch. Come out and drop a line!
